I joined Genie Life Sciences in its very early stages as a lab automation startup in 2020, and have had a very challenging and rewarding experience as the UX Lead and Frontend Developer. From the early stages of researching labs and discovering many pain points at all levels of the protocol design and implementation process, I spearheaded innovative software solutions that would shake up the liquid handling industry. 

The following views showcase a mixture of assets I was a key participant in, primarily the cloud-based application that allows 

scientists, automation engineers, and lab operators, to get their work done more efficiently, more accurately, and more enjoyably than any other lab automation software on the market.

While I was at Cisco, I worked on a small startup project coined Project Lockheart within the organization. The goal was to create a centralized "single pane of glass" to manage all of the security policies that run on Cisco firewall appliances. I played dual roles during my tenure, focusing between UX Design and Frontend development. I managed a weekly UX Guild that served as a platform for UX designers and product managers to discuss current challenges and directives happening throughout Cisco. I also attended many offsites to provide creative input to other groups within the organization.

Punchey’s mission is to help promote, market and advance the trade between local businesses and consumers. Helping buyers find the right sellers and vice versa. Over the years I was asked to create custom landing pages, logo designs, illustrations, and email campaigns for Punchey's online presence. Here are a few examples.

Throughout my years at Aquent, I provided creative direction and designed many different printed mail campaigns to remind customers of Aquent's services. The mailers also served to educate clients about specialized creatives that they could employ to help grow certain aspects of their business. Here are just a handful of examples.

As a relatively new brand, Vitamin T identified several areas of their website that could serve them better strategically: clearer audience targeting and client acquisition. After extensive user research and testing, we felt we had enough information to begin the process of restructuring the site and honing the message. My role was to lead the creative vision—to design with a mobile-first approach—and make Vitamin T stand out from the pack. Armed with a drawing tablet, a vague understanding of SVG animations, and loads of caffeine and Gummy Bears, I got down to work. I served as Assistant Creative Director on this campaign while we worked alongside 

 on a series of visuals to be used in various forms of advertising for Aquent. The main idea for the campaign was to portray Aquent talent in a specific creative setting, the idea or problem they were working on is represented by the larger than life props. Aquent used the final images in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal mobile apps, office lobby ads, online display ads, and in direct mail. The photos were shot by Chris McPherson in New York City. The props were created by Jerry Schwartz.

Gymnasium is a MOOC-style website built by Aquent to address the ever expanding skills gap in the design world. The site was built from from scratch, by a handful of scrappy designers, coders, and biz dev folks passionate about helping talent gain the skills they need to become successful in producing amazing work. My role on this project was to establish a brand identity and guidelines for Gymnasium, create fluid responsive templates and UI that could scale and be flexible enough to endure the ever changing needs of the business, provide ongoing support with front end coding challenges, and log countless hours of QA and bug testing. The result is an ever expanding course catalog coupled by rave reviews from students and peers in the digital community.

The Summer of Learning was a pilot program created by Aquent to help digital creatives further their skills in HTML5 and mobile development. The course provided access to training videos and books, and includes a self-paced course led by a highly respected teacher on emerging web standards, webinars, an online forum, and action-based assignments for students. My role was to create eye-catching visuals to help drive traffic to the marketing website, and generate buzz around the program. With only the name "Summer of Learning" predetermined, I developed a logo, marketing banners, a website, emails, and giveaways. I played a supporting role with the front end development as well, focusing on responsive handling. The campaign got so many responses that we had to scale back our marketing for fear that we wouldn't have capacity to meet the high demand for this exceptional learning experience.

A two-month email campaign I created to help drive sales to a well known restaurant in Chicago called 

. The marketing team wanted to tie the emails to major sporting, holiday, and media events throughout the given time period.

Find the right fit before you commit. A 7"x5" promotional mailer sent to clients describing Aquent's Try-Before-You-Hire Talent Bridge program. Talent Bridge provides companies and creatives a great to evaluate one another while working together on real projects. If the fit is right at the end of the evaluation period, Aquent works out all the employment details to make the transition seamless. Avoid awk-ward. Use Talent Bridge and try before you hire.

These are but a handful of many comps produced for a future refresh of the aquent.com website. The main goal was to create a responsive layout, enhanced readability of the website content, and a more modern and consistent look and feel.

I created Ruby Invoice for freelancers, designers, startups and the like. It's focus was to provide an invoicing suite that's easy on the eyes and usable on a mobile phone, (for those who like to invoice on the bus). My aim was to continue to provide Ruby Invoice as a free service to the freelancing community and continuously improve on existing functionality while exploring new features that make it easier to invoice and get paid quicker.

With a sea of personal finance apps available, it baffled me that nothing I found could do the simple task of balancing a checkbook. Armed with Angular.js, a database, and a couple of IPAs, (not to be confused with APIs), I did the unthinkable. I made my own. Balance is currently in beta and undergoing rigorous testing by a crack team of digital engineers, (my wife and myself), but anyone in need of a balanced checkbook can grab the source or contribute on GitHub.

Showcasing the fine art of Aquent and Vitamin T talent from around the globe is a time-honored tradition Aquent looks forward to every year. For over two decades, Aquent proudly highlighted the artistic work of their talent in the annual calendar. The talent calendar was given to each of Aquent's clients as a thank you for their continued business. The calendar featured a unique flip design that allows the individual to feature their favorite artwork on any month, or if they prefer, the calendar can be turned around to feature a full-size spread of the artwork.

This is a collection of personal work I've done over the years. I enjoy illustrating both on and off the computer, but lately I've found it's most convenient to draw on my iPad using Procreate to do most of my sketches, it allows me to start and stop my work quickly from almost anywhere. It can be challenging to find the time to work on these things outside of my regular job and parenting, but I've found I really need a creative outlet to stay sane.
