TankTank is a portfolio micro-site of past client and personal projects. The site was developed in Actionscript 3, all of the code and transition effects built entirely from scratch. The site itself is very straight-forward, it showcases a sparse but easy to navigate UI that makes it easy to flip through projects without the long download waiting time issues that are common with Flash sites.
Although there a lot of stylistic things that I appreciate about the site, it also represents one of the last web projects where I used Flash exclusively for development. I quickly became frustrated about how long it took me to add new projects and keep the content current. Apart from that, I rarely entertained the idea of expanding the functionality of the site as I realized it would consume a lot of time coding from scratch.
It's nice to look back at projects like the TankTank site and recognize the quirky flaws along with all of the great things that were learned along the way. I am so very glad to have adopted a new set of tools like Drupal and Jquery that have such a large community of users that are open to sharing ideas and helping designers and developers move forward.
