Chromaloop Re-re-refreshhh!

Well folks, it's been about five months since I began planning the new Chromaloop site redesign, and today I am proud to announce the official launch. I can honestly say that designing for myself is one of the biggest challenges I've come up against, come to find out I'm extremely picky and have a bad habit of changing my mind late in the production cycle. I can't tell you how many times my wife asked half-jokingly whether I had finished with "that damn footer?". And now I can truthfully say with utmost certainly that yes indeed, I am finished with the footer! (At least for the next few months or so...)

Some major elements that I'm really excited about are:

  • The site was completely rebuilt from scratch on the Drupal 7 platform, Drupal wrocks!
  • The portfolio section was done with the help of masonry
  • I used the newer @font-face spec to deliver custom fonts with absolutely no performance loss—bye-bye cufon
  • I used the pretty cool base theme from Adaptive Themes which uses HTML5 markup and is designed around the principles of structure and semantics, compatibility and accessibility.

With that said there is still a bit of housekeeping left to do. You'll probably notice most of my posts were generated on the same date. That's because I couldn't figure out a graceful way to import my posts from an older Drupal 6 site which used a completely different node time to generate blog posts. Sadly I'm still trying to figure out how to salvage all of the extremely valuable user generated content as well. Maybe I'm looking at this from the wrong angle but there's not a lot of information out there that addresses this specific problem. If anyone has any ideas how to do this gracefully I'd love to hear from you!
